There are a few things that I have experienced in my life that fall into the category of amazing. Meeting the love of my life for the first time. Speaking our vows as we joined our lives in marriage. The birth of our three children. Buying our first home. You get the idea, things that don’t happen every day.
There is something else that also falls into the ‘amazing’ category and is promised to each of us, and that is the presence of Almighty God.
I have recently purposed in my heart to study and better understand the presence of God, but more than understanding it with my intellect, I believe God desires to show me and to show all of us that He can be as close as the extent of our desire and pursuit of Him.
The Proof of Desire is Pursuit
Most of us tend to choose what comes easy and free of pain in our lives. We hear the infomercials that say “Try this diet and lose 30 lbs. in one week – no exercise required.” A life of comfort and pain free living can be appealing. It has been said that anything worth anything is worth fighting for. I met my wife in Italy where I was born and raised, but because I wanted to be in her life and she in mine, I pursued her and moved from the comforts of my surroundings because she was more important to me than anything else. When it comes to the presence of God it is all about pursuit and desire. Have we checked our desire meter lately? What are we willing to do to pursue a God who was relentless in the pursuit of our salvation? How important is His presence as we battle every day life? We simply cannot place a value on it. So rather than focusing on what we have to give up to pursue His presence, let’s focus of what we will gain when will feel and know the comforting, yet powerful presence of Almighty God.
God Does Not Play Hide and Seek
When I was a child, this was one of my favorite games, I was hard to find and fast and could play it for hours. It’s easy to say “I desire God’s presence” but what am I actually doing to pursue God. The Father sent Jesus who came to seek and to save the lost, which speaks of pursuit with a specific desire or mission in mind. The amazing thing about God is that He is always there, He is not hiding from us. He is not the aloof, cold and distant God. Please receive that in your spirit now. You may think God is hiding from you because you don’t measure up or you are not good enough. Let me break the news to you, you and I will never be good enough to merit anything; God by His grace and mercy is ready to reveal His love to us freely, no strings attached. Don’t let the enemy fool you into believing a lie. God is here and He will show His presence as we seek Him with all our hearts. (Jeremiah 29:13)
The Bible is full of verses describing the importance of seeking our Creator. Here are some that invite us to pursue God and His presence, I encourage you to reflect on these truths:
1 Chronicles 16:11 – “Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face continually.”
1 Chronicles 22:19 – “Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God.”
Psalms 14:2 – “The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.”
Proverbs 8:17 – “I love those who love me; and those who diligently seek me will find me.”
Deuteronomy 4:29 – “But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul.”
Jeremiah 29:11-14 – “For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”
May we say like the psalmist, When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, O LORD, I shall seek.” Let’s make that our prayer.
