The power of deduction is not something we all possess. There is a science behind it and very few are really good at it. If you’ve watched any of the Sherlock Holmes movies, you know this fictional character had it going on. Using the power of observation and deduction coupled with the knowledge of forensic science and the power of disguise, Sherlock solved some crazy mysteries.
So what does Sherlock Holmes have to do with anything? At times I analyze situations and often ask myself the question “what am I missing” – especially when I am unable to see things the way I should. Perhaps you’ve experienced the same at some point in your life.
So let me bring this together and tell you a little about me – I love God today but haven’t always. I found Jesus at a point in my life that when I looked at the evidence and observed where I was headed and I deducted I needed help. I’m not talking about psychological, social or economic assistance; I needed Him to fill a void in my life.
What we need is Jesus!
Maybe you are also on the same journey, and like it was for me, something is missing. No it isn’t money, fame or popularity we need to fill that void in our lives. It is not fun and more fun, living from one moment to the next. These give us only momentary pleasure. Laughter but not happiness.
To cure the void in our lives we need something that can close the gap and not just temporarily but for good. I found that person in Jesus. That does not make me perfect or better, but I know that the void is filled. It also does not mean that life is without issues or that God is my wish genie, but He does complete the puzzle and fill my empty place.
May I be more up-close and personal? If you look at your life what do you see? What observations can you make? Do you have peace and real joy of living? Maybe it’s time to use the powers of observation, deduction and some honesty of course.
In the book of Romans in the Bible, the apostle Paul says that even creation speaks of the existence of God, yet only few come to the conclusion the missing piece is Jesus, because temporary substitutes are used to numb the pain, escape reality or divert our attention from what is true and real.
There is no magic formula, all who call on Jesus in their time of need will receive the answer they need, to fill the void and complete their existence. There is more to life than just the visible and the tangible.
